McLaren – Brand history, legendary models, current offer

McLaren is a British manufacturer of high-performance luxury sports cars

McLaren has been participating in the Formula 1 World Championship since 1966 and has won eight Constructors’ Championship titles. In 1981, he became the only team to win the Formula 1 world championship in both years of racing under that name, and in 1984 added the ninth title. The company also offers consulting services to other F1 teams and builds road cars sold under its own name.

The McLaren Group was founded by New Zealander Bruce McLaren prior to his departure to the Indianapolis 500s in 1967 with his friend Teddy Mayer, who later bought his stake in the company; it was renamed Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited, which eventually became known simply as McLaren.

In 1989, Bruce McLaren was killed in a test accident at Goodwood in preparation for the 1993 season. Ron Dennis retired in 2009 as team director of McLaren Formula One, but retained his position as president of the group’s parent company, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.

In the 2015 season, Daimler and McLaren announced that they would renew the partnership that began in 1995, but this time Mercedes engines will power the McLaren F1 cars.

McLaren is one of the most successful teams in Formula 1 history.
